My Duets CD

Look at your  music collection. If you have any music by an artist who has been performing for a long time, they probably have a duet album.  In the case of bands with great longevity, they’ve recorded a CD with “special guest artists”.

Some other musicians don’t seem to follow this trend. Instead, they appear on everyone else’s CD.  I’ve never bought an Emmylou Harris CD. Yet I have a ton of songs with her singing on my iPod, she is on everyone else’s discs.

This whole duets CD thing has me thinking. I am completely lacking anything approaching musical talent. Yet I see that people, as they get older, are expected to record a series of duets. I’m going to have to do what I have to do.

Damn, older again

I am getting older by the minute. It seems as if I ought to get moving on this. I don’t  really know many people with a catalog of recorded music that I can get involved in my duet project. Some of you know that I have a history of concerning myself with things that don’t really matter all that much. It goes without saying that this doesn’t really fall into that class of things that don’t matter all that much. I appreciate that you recognize that without me having to press the issue.

There are a lot of decisions to make. To start, who is going to perform on the CD? I think there is some sort of statute which mandates that Emmylou Harris would have to be involved in the project.  Beyond that, things are kind of wide open. If anyone is interested in being on the CD, now is the time to let me know. Don’t be shy, Emmylou can’t do everything.

I don’t think I can really commit to one particular style of music. If I said I was doing an opera record, or country or salsa, that might be off putting to some who would be more comfortable performing in a different genre of music. The sky is the limit on this CD. If you’ve got a song you want us to do together, I’m probably good with it.

Actually, I’m lying a little. I’d rather not do rap. Sure, it is the only thing suited to my vocal range and lack of talent. All the same, I have to draw the line somewhere.

The last thing that needs to be decided is the title of the CD. Since most of you have little or no idea who I am, one of the potential titles is “Me And That Guy I Don’t Know.” Also in the running are “Me, You and Emmylou” and “Omawari-songs”. I’ll leave that question to a poll because, why not?

So, there you have it, my duets CD is in the works. Let me know your suggestions. I’ll have my agent get in touch.

Oh, and I’d be more than happy to be on your CD when the time comes.

Wassername did that CD with her dead dad, so I’m figuring you could do one with Rodney Dangerfield. That way, you can both get on a CD and have no respect at the same time: a win/win situation if I ever heard one.

so i voted for “me, you, and emmylou” i can’t sing but i think i’m really a chick bass player in my own mind, so you two do the singing and i’ll rock out on my bass. cool?

    • omawarisan says:

Cool. In keeping with the punk part, let’s do a Dead Kennedys cover. I saw them play on the DC Mall during the Reagan Administration.

Crap, I’m old. We’d better get to work.

I’m volunteering the use of my studio. I’ll let you use it for free, as long as you include the following phrase in your title: “…and the Great Abe”. As in, Me and that Guy I Don’t Know and the Great Abe.

As your producer, I’m entitled to 103% of the proceeds. I will also require that you throw out your silly preferences and perform at least 2 rap duets, featuring the standard line-up of R. Kelly, Snoop Dogg, and Lil’ Kim.

This is going to be big.

Deal. Oh, if some woman shows up at your place, it is Emmylou. If you can get some stuff recorded before she moves on to someone elses project I’d appreciate it.

I’m with jammer5 on your choice of partners, the mere thought of you and Dangerfield singing a duet causes me to damn near wet my pants laughing! But I also love that “ME, You and Emmylou” album title! 🙄

I have to think about the song, but I’m replying now in the hope that you will help me realize my dream of being the egg-shaker girl (please, please, please?!?!). I have always wanted to be the egg-shaker girl. Well, for the longest time, it was lead guitar and vocals, but I learned to row last year and came to the understanding that I am too old to handle blisters with any modicum of dignity.

I also voted for a name, but it wasn’t the same one PattyPunker voted for and I don’t think I want her mad at me.

You can shake your eggs (that sounds vaguely improper, but it’s all I’ve got) but you’re going to have to sing. This project can’t rest on my voice!

      • hippiecahier says:

Ok, after exhaustive research that had me looking at videos as far-ranging as Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood to The Archies (a duet??), I kept coming back to this: ixnay on the egg-shaker dream for now. I’d like to suggest a Blues Brothers tune. Emmylou has to be Elwood. We can thumbwreslte over who gets to be Jake. Since you presumably have your mojo by now, “I Ain’t Got You” might work, but “Soul Man” is a classic, as is “Rubber Biscuits.” I have done nothing of value this evening. It was fun — thanks….

  6. queensgirl says:

I’ll sing! How about “Ivory and Ivory-er”?

  7. linlah says:

You must include Stevie Nicks as she has recently been spotted on many a duet album.

  8. Pie says:

You, me and Justin Bieber, baby – let’s do it!

  9. planetross says:

Elton John could revise another one of his/Bernie Taupin’s songs and you could duet “This is Omawari’s Song”.

Maybe Uma, Oprah, and Oma for a truet of “Surfin’ Bird”

    “Papa-Uma-mow-mow, papa-Oprah-mow-mow
    Papa-Oma-mow-mow, papa-Oma-mow-mow”

So, what's on your mind?
