Yesterday, those of us in North America woke up to the news that Prince William of England will be marrying Kate Middleton. As I went through my day, many of my friends and co-workers approached me for my opinion on this news. Why? I’m not sure. It was a little odd. My answer was predictable – I don’t care. It has been inescapable on television news that the new Sex And The City movie is arriving in theaters. According to the reporters, everyone is excited about this development.
No reporter asked me. I would be a moderating influence on the “everyone is excited” story angle.

I don’t see that changing. I know that doesn’t concern to the producers of this new movie. I’m not their demographic.
As a public service to those who, like me, are between being indifferent to this movie and sick of it before it even comes out, I am going to reveal the story of this latest film.
If you are planning on seeing this film, stop here and go see it, then come back. I don’t want to ruin it for you with my revelation of the story, which I’ve constructed based on television advertising, a lot of stuff I made up (since I have no idea what is in this movie) and clips of the movie shown on the news. The world is such a contentious place. There are so many debates, so many issues to be resolved. Questions of faith, political positions and ethics separate us from one another. Respect for differing opinions is at an all time low.
There is so much contention that only today have I come to learn that I don’t even know what all the questions are that are up for discussion. This was a difficult discovery for me. I’m just going to go ahead now and admit that I no longer know everything. Read the rest of this entry »
As those of you who have been stopping by a while know, from time to time, there are people and trends who must be dismissed. Their antics, their constant insertion into our lives has made them tiresome to the point that they must be sent packing.
The first dismissal goes to anyone named Kardashian. Now, I am certain that there is someone who carries that name who is worthy of admiration and attention. If you are that person I am sorry, you are going to have to leave too. I just can’t chance that you’re lying.
To the best of my knowledge, the Kardashians who are alive are famous because they were spawned by an attorney who represented the noted sleuth, OJ Simpson. Read the rest of this entry »
Periodically, a list builds up in my mind of people and things who are no longer relevant and should leave the public eye. From time to time, I need to purge the list. It is purge time.
Amy Winehouse. Enough. Time to go.
One day, I’d never heard of you, the next day you were, according to the critics, the greatest thing to hit music since Mozart. Read the rest of this entry »
Today’s paper and electronic news media focus on non news has been all about Harry Potter. Special newspaper sections and breathless teasers on the news telling me that they’ll get me ready for the new Harry Potter film.
I don’t care.
Now, I recognize that for whatever reason, the Potter books have gotten a lot of children to read. A child reading almost any book is a very good thing.
The frenzy surrounding the movies and anything having to do with them, I just don’t get. Read the rest of this entry »
As usual, while things are getting crazy in the world, it is hard to find out about the important things going on without being forced to endure the completely unimportant things going on.
My Yahoo front page could not wait to tell me about Perez Hilton, celebrity blogger, and his suit against the manager of the Black Eyed Peas. Apparently there was some face punching going on.
