Five Routine Minutes: My Dad And A Hard Working Five Year Old

On Sunday, I took my parents to North Carolina State University. We went to see my son play with the school’s Pep Band at a women’s basketball game.

Here is a picture I drew of my folks and the Omawari-son after the game.

How do you accessorize a breast cancer awareness t-shirt?

Yes, I know it isn’t my usual caliber of work. Even Picasso had a bad day now and again.

After we had dinner, we were on the way to drop my son off at his dorm. He pointed out a favorite restaurant of his. It is a Korean place that I’ve written a “Five Minutes” post about before. The conversation reminded my Dad of an encounter he had with the owner of a shoe repair business, a Korean gentleman. Read the rest of this entry »

Five Routine Minutes: An Unexpected Position

The NCAA Basketball Tournament has begun. Last week I watched as the teams that were selected for the tournament were announced. The very last team  announced was from my son’s school, North Carolina State University.

When he is happy, I’m happy.

The schedule of games came out and NC State’s first game is Friday at 12:40 P.M. .  I’ll be at work at that time.

I can’t really sit and watch a basketball game on TV while I work. Read the rest of this entry »

2010 – The Year In Jolie

Say hello to our little friend.

2010 was the first year of the Jolie Pez Project. I want to start out by saying that the project has already gone far beyond what I thought it could. My thanks go out to each of you who, at great risk to your safety and reputations, have allowed The Jolie into your lives.

I also would like to thank all the friends of The Jolie who read her adventures. Many of you are still awaiting a visit from our favorite action figure. I am happy to report that The Jolie will be traveling for quite some time. She has committed to visit all who invite her, anywhere in the world.

The Jolie Pez Project: The Jolie Sees NC State Beat Carolina In Chapel Hill

The Jolie stopped in North Carolina for a day while in transit from her soon to be published California adventure to her upcoming visit to the Washington, DC area. This visit was completely unexpected, but apparently she wanted to see The Omawari-son and the North Carolina State Marching Band play at the big football game between NC State and the University of North Carolina.

The Jolie complained the whole ride about having to pay $5 for a ride to the stadium from a satellite lot in Chapel Hill. She was starting to get on everyone’s nerves until… Read the rest of this entry »

The Omawari-son brings home the bacon. Also some milk, peaches and stamps.

Unexpected news arrived at the spacious el Rancho Omawarisan in Friday’s mail. A letter from North Carolina State University brought news that The Omawari-son had been awarded a scholarship that amounts to about half the cost of his yearly college expenses.

There was rejoicing and jocularity following the reading of the letter. A re-reading of the letter, to confirm its contents, followed the rejoicing. The second reading revealed that the University would issue a check to refund an amount equal to what the scholarship would have covered had it been granted before his tuition bill was paid in July.
